Mazin... hmmm... why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah-- it sounds a lot like Mazinger-Z? What? It IS Mazinger-Z? Cool. Mazin Saga (known as Mazin Wars in PAL territories) is a beat em'up/versus fighting game based on the Mazin Saga manga by Go Nagai, which was in turn a spin-off of Nagai's original Mazinger Z. A Mazinger Z game was released for the Super Famicom.

You know a game is going to be interesting when your villain is Godkaizer Hell (Dr. Hell). Set in the year 1999 A.D., Mazinger Z must attempt to stop giant Bio-Beasts and GKH from destroying the Earth and the human race. The game is pretty linear and basic. Mazinger-Z has a number of melee attacks that can help him in different ways, but there are no real power-ups. Some of the levels and bosses are interesting, and the way boss battles play out is similar to a fighting game, though this too is very basic. Oh, the animation is pretty nice.

Enemies can be beaten with relative ease, but bosses may prove troublesome. A tip for the first boss (Garada-K7) is to let him come to you. He's not very bright.
