In this video, Mean Machine, released in 1991 for the Atari ST by Code Masters.
Take your car and challenge the other computer controlled cars in this vertical scrolling race game, that reminds me 1983 Irem's "Traverse USA", only this time you drive a car and you have missiles onboard. Along the way there are bonuses like, gas cans and missiles ammo useful to win the game.
This game has one big problem IMHO and it is that you play too near to the upper part of the screen and you cannot see enemy cars and bonuses in time. The rest is ok, graphics, sound and playability.
Here you'll find gameplay of first checkpoint and beginning of the second.

All footage taken from original hardware machines and upscaled to 1080P.
