Mega Man 2 is a Nintendo Entertainment System action game developed and published by Capcom. It was first launched in Japan in 1988, then later in North America and the PAL countries. Mega Man 2 picks off where Mega Man left off in his fight against the wicked Dr. Wily and his rogue robots. Many of the graphical and gameplay enhancements that it introduced become series standards.
Despite the dismal sales of the first Mega Man, Capcom gave the team permission to make a sequel. They worked on other Capcom projects while developing the game in their spare time, using unused content from the original game. The soundtrack was composed by Takashi Tateishi, with sound programming by Yoshihiro Sakaguchi.
Mega Man 2 is the most popular Mega Man game, having sold over 1.5 million copies. Its music, aesthetics, and gameplay were complimented by critics as improvements over the first game. Mega Man 2 is widely regarded as the best game in the series and one of the greatest video games ever made. It was also rereleased on a variety of different systems and made available for mobile phones.
