Mega Man DOS (5): Final Stage - CRORQ, Dr. Wily, & Abrupt Ending
35"A CRORQ of Something"
The final stage once again beats a future Mega Man game to the punch by turning the level into a stage remix boss gauntlet kind of deal like MM&B will do years later. Did you think this game was non-canon? I mean, you saw every time we got a weapon in this it was added to the Plasma "Canon", so there! Now it's time to stop "Dr. Wiley" again, and it sure isn't hard to do that with our weakness weapons!
You're going to learn real quickly that these tools are all varying degrees of useful. It's a shame that there's not more of a game here to use them in, but whatever. Definitely would go as far to say that Force Field would be considered one of the best shields in the series if it was in a better game. It's not, but that's okay. Wily, old pal that's not a pal, you and your controlled computer never stood a chance. And hey, Mega and the text boxes even got their memories back thanks to an old friend, so that's something, right?
As for my thoughts on this game, while it's amazing in the sense that Capcom actually sold this to customers for money, I would not put this as the worst Mega Man game I've ever played. It's in that same area as Xtreme 1 where it exists, and I can get through it easily enough that it's not the train wreck I thought it'd be. That puts it above Challenger From the Future and Xtreme 2, the two entries that compete for my current all-time least favorite Mega Man title. That said, this DOS game has a sequel, and I have a feeling we could be scraping the bottom of the barrel then! Oh boy...
