895A playthrough of Capcom's 2006 platformer for the Sony PlayStation Portable, Mega Man Powered Up.
This video shows two playthroughs of the "new style" game: the first is done with Mega Man C, and the second, begining at 1:12:18, is done with Protoman.
Mega Man Powered Up is a complete remake of the original 1987 NES game with a ton of new features thrown in to keep it all feeling fresh.
There are two main game types: old style, a direct update of the original game with updated graphics; and new style, a far more thorough remake that gives the game fully voiced cutscenes, widescreen support, remixed music, a selection of difficulty settings, and unlockable characters to play as. The game also provides a full "challenge" mode and a level editing utility. Two new robot masters, Time Man and Oil Man, have been included as well. There's a lot of stuff jam packed onto that ridiculous looking UMD disc!
The updated presentation is surprisingly well done. I remember being very skeptical of it when it first came out thanks to the heavy anime influence on the graphics, but regardless of my dislike of the SD "chibi" style, it suits the game extremely well. The same goes for the sound - I far prefer the NES tunes, but the kiddie carnival style remixes do suit the style of the remake.
Mega Man is just as difficult of a game on the PSP as it has ever been elsewhere, but the different playable characters, difficulty modes, and sharp controls make it just as good as the original - perhaps better depending on how much "replayability" you require from your games. Capcom got this one right.
It's too bad sales were in the toilet, though. I would have loved to see the other Mega Man games get this type of treatment.
