Mega Man X4 (X): Final Stage | No Damage | Stock Arm Only
Mega Man X4 (PS1), no damage taken in the Final Weapon (Final Stage) vs Sigma. This is a re-uploaded series called "Arm Parts Only", which is a challenge run where I can only get the arm upgrade (Stock Shot). This means limited special weapon ammo until the end, and allows for some strategic speedrunning with the stock shot.
Final Weapon (Boss Rush + Sigma) Overview:
With Stock Arm being the superior boss killer compared to Plasma, the boss rush is actually easier with him than Zero. Still, the gauntlet-like nature of the rematches are the real challenge. It really doesn't matter that 6 out of 8 of these bosses are stupid-easy for X... just that fighting all them PERFECTLY and in a row is a true test of endurance. Fighting Dragoon and Owl (because Beast isn't as challenging for X as he is for Zero) perfectly is what makes you feel like you're under pressure; that if you mess up once, you'll have to fight both of them and Sigma AGAIN. This is why I opted for taking both Dragoon and Owl out first so I could get the harder two out the way first. This works because you'll have time to mentally prepare yourself for Sigma when you get there.
Grim Reaper Sigma is a piece of cake. No explanation for the first round. For round 2, same deal, just that you've got funny hitboxes on your side to just trash him when he does his eye lasers. Now... final form Sigma.
Initially, I was going to rank this stage 10/10 solely due to the RNG of whatever he wants to do with the left Sigma head. However, during my remastered run of Zero, I found a REALLY useful maneuver to just make the debris spit a non-issue. Zero gets more actual usage/damage out of it, but it's an option both characters can utilize. You basically need an attack that can soar you above Sigma and before he spits out the debris. I'll explain the strategy for Zero during his own run, but for X, Rising Fire (charged) works well here since it destroys debris above him while giving him travel height in the process. But... since I didn't do this strategy here (because this run is actually months old), it wouldn't make sense for me to explain it in detail here. I'll break it down when the Zero run begins.
But for this fight how I tackled it this time, there's still one other factor that makes his rock spit easier to deal with. If you hold the opposite direction, you'll GREATLY slow down the speed at which you're getting pulled in. This'll outright avoid being hit from beneath by debris that may (or may not) appear and that gives you ample time to destroy whatever's in front of you before retreating to the right-hand wall. Really, that's it. If you can deal with that, you've got this fight down. But due to Sigma's RNG nature, I still feel he desires the 5/10 score.
Welp, that's the end of X's journey for now. I appreciate you watching this, and stay tuned for the much-awaited Zero remastered of this game in February and somewhat of an important video I need to make addressing some things before I release another gameplay video.
