Mega Man X5: Zero Boss Rush - Minimalist/No Damage (Part IV)
Part IV.
Individual Boss Comments:
Sigma - Whew boy, do I have a fucking lot to say about this asshole. This is the hardest Sigma fight in the entire series, and with Zero, you really feel the utter horror this fight is. The first phase is nothing too terrible, but that doesn't mean he still can't catch you off guard with his speed. The main threat is his virus heads, which basically cut off a majority of the space you have to move and dodge, especially while he's dashing around with them in tow. Other than that, his electrical orbs are a playground, and his waves are nothing too terrible either.
Then his second form pops out. This giant head pulls absolutely no fucking punches. Let's begin with the hands. They move in the most fucking erratic pattern, rarely will these things actually behave, and even though you can stand on them, nine times out of ten it's to your disadvantage. They can crush you between them, cross you up, send you up to the ceiling which causes damage, and fire blasts. The projectile itself isn't that bad, but if you're standing on a hand and it fires? You are unavoidably fucked.
Sigma himself has three attacks, and all are worth detailing. The electric orbs are your safe space, or at least, they're the closest thing you've fucking got to one in this fight. They move based on our position, so it's very easy to get them stuck in a position where dodging them is a fever dream. It doesn't help that because they move from left to right after Sigma fires them, getting stuck on the left side of the screen is more often than not a death sentence. It ESPECIALLY doesn't help that past half health, he can cut it off and instantly go into the purple cubes
These things are one of the biggest pains in the ass in the game to avoid. Let's go through the laundry list of stupid shit these cubes do. For one, the way they materialize one after another is insanely fucking weird. Dashing or jumping too early can cause them to bunch up and hit you, or just spawn in the weirdest fucking places. Sigma is also highly inconsistent with the timing he starts the move, both when he's using it after another attack or when it's his first attack after the hands leave the screen. This means it can come out faster than you're expecting, and completely fuck your timing.
Last, there's the lighting claw. I hate this fucking attack, more than the purple cube. The only solace to it is the horrifically forgiving hit detection on the actual lightning. Doesn't help much when Sigma decides to stop the claw, which makes planting into the stuff easier than Dark fucking Dizzy. If he wants to stop it three times instead of two times, he'll do it. If he wants to leave a large gap between the two pauses, or stop it twice in a row, he'll do that too. It's a fucking mess.
Let me tell you man, getting a perfect fight on this guy was an experience and then some, and throughout the whole thing I just wanted to send my fist through my monitor and remove the stupid bald cunt's smile from my screen. This is easily the peak of X5's challenge, and even rivals a lot of shit X6 pulls.
I still enjoyed it though.
