Hello and welcome to yet another endeavor of mine in an attempt to prove that true insanity can indeed be self inflicted. The last time I fucked around with these games was an entire year ago, back when I still thought there was happiness to be found in life. Now we're here, and I'm ready and willing to fucking suffer my ass off.

This series encapsulates the same concept of the boss rush I did with X, only now the spotlight is on his red partner/best friend/lover, Zero. He's a character I don't have the most amount of experience with, so this was a fun way to brush up on a unique and very fun to use character. As usual, the restrictions binding my soul to this challenge are the standard ones I pertain to in these challenges. Zero takes no damage, and uses no weapons or techniques. There are a few exceptions to this rule, but I'll talk about them in greater detail when they come up. In order to avoid certain complications with these techniques, I tackle the bosses in their stages, rather than in the boss refights. Besides the less repetitive backgrounds, it allows me to use as little of Zero's boss-gained weapons as possible.

Obviously, it takes more than no damage and no weapons to make X4 difficult, so before we get to this game's more difficult sequels, this one is really more for entertainment than impressment, so enjoy the show.

Individual Boss Comments:

Web Spider - My favorite thing about this boss is that every time I face him, I seem to find more and more ways to exploit the horrible hit detections on his one attack, hence you see moments in this fight where Zero seemingly jumps THROUGH the fucking thing. What else is new about this fight? Absolutely nothing.

Frost Walrus - He's uh, really easy... That's... all I have to say. I let the icicles he shoots from the ceiling rock instead of shattering them. It doesn't do much for him

Storm Owl - I love this fight. It's a god damn performance of precision and getting a flawless fight with this guy is never an easy time. His large variety of attacks, most of which tend to be a pain in some way, is complimented by his ability to slam you into the fucking ground if you let him grab you, something that's deceptively easy to do. The worst attacks from him are of course, the homing cyclones and the tornados. You can occasionally get a fight where he doesn't use the cyclones, but if he does, it becomes about 10x worse than it was before. That desperation attack is still lame.

Slash Beast - Okay, now I'll admit, he's without a doubt, a much harder encounter with Zero than he is with X. That being said, he's still just barely above being a joke. Maybe if he had the sense to attack you with more than just slow projectiles and slow lunges he'd be more of a threat. The only outlier here is the counter, which is fast enough to be impossible to dodge if Zero slashes Beast while he's in the counter stance. Thankfully, there's absolutely no punishment for not hitting him during it, so feel free to wait while he sorts his shit out.

Jet Stingray - God this boss is a pain in the ass. His little helpers (who I like to believe are his children, if only because it makes this weird trend that X bosses like to follow even weirder) are not very hard to manage, until he starts shooting the fucking pink ones. His dives can be pretty unpredictable, but everything else is just easy. Also, bad hit detection rears it's head in this fight yet again. I wish Zero fought the Colonel in Memorial Hall.

Magma Dragoon - Fucks sake this fight is fun. What few patterns Dragoon follows are transitioned between so fast that most of the time, it's easy to see why people think he's so unpredictable. The worst of it is when he decides to shoot his fireballs in the corner, which gives you about a second to react and not take a hit. I also let him show off the meteor attack. It's not very effective.

Cyber Peacock - On your first fight with him, he'll fuck you up. Once you learn the missile's patterns, he's about as threatening as a peacock stew.

Split Mushroom - Hardest boss in the game right here (besides Sigma, of course.) If you know what you're doing and how to optimize hits on him, you can kill him in about 50 or so seconds. Past that, he becomes so fucking unpredictable it's not even worth joking about. Once he and his clone decide to desync, it becomes an absolute nightmare. After just a few attempts trying to react to all that fucking bouncing, running, and the purple spores, your head will be fucking spinning.
