Mega Man X5【ZERO】 X vs Zero ~ No Damage Run (XTREME)
Mega Man X5 (Zero) X vs Zero, No Damage challenge/speedrun of Virus Stage 3 on Xtreme Mode. In this playthrough, I achieve the MMH/MEH rank in the end.
I have the Mega Man X5 Improvement patch applied, which I mainly used to shut Alia up. You can download the patch here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3711/
More details: In this no damage run, I'm not using Zero's SDC (Saber Dash Cancel) and instead am using other cancel techniques, such as crouch and jump cancels. It's very similar to SDC, just that it requires more finger work with the D-pad and is more technical than SDC. If you want to learn more about the techniques I use during this run, watch this video: https://youtu.be/rfPZxWnpSbs
Stage Overview:
Not a lot to say here. Simple platforming, aside from one section that involves the ropes. You have to be very precise with your F-Splashers, as they're the only way you're getting through there unscathed while keeping a good pace (remember, you HAVE to get MMH here if you're only using one hunter for the entire game, because the final stage is not calculated in the final ranking, and there's no way to have MMH before you get here if you're just playing Zero or X alone). Take advantage of the fact that F-Splasher protects you from everything, so time them right and land in-between the gaps of the spike enemies as best as you can. Other than that, easy platforming.
X vs Zero Overview:
Funny enough, X is probably one of the more challenging bosses of the game (that's still not saying much, all things considered, lol. This game has the easiest bosses as Zero imo) when you're attempting no damage. He's got a tricky AI, and you can't necessarily predict all his moves. He's got two options of movement if he doesn't weapon swap (and if he's nowhere near a wall): he's either do a charge shot point blank, or dash charge shot. This is entirely RNG, so you'll have to use preemptive strategies here. Since he leaves little room for flashy combos, I decided to go with a simple C-Sword, then jump cancel into another to stay airborne, incase he decides to dash. I got some really good RNG in this take, because he usually spams Soul Body like no tomorrow.
Which is why I'll get into his weapon swaps now. He'll also randomly shuffle between Cyclone Shot, Soul Body and Frost Tower. The latter he'll more likely do when he's low on HP. He does these swaps whenever he wants, so don't even try to predict them. Soul Body is probably one of the more stressful ones to dodge, as they lock onto you current position. If you put yourself in a bad spot (like dash jumping over them too early and with no wall to save you), you WILL get hit. Alternatively, you can dodge two of them, then used the giga attack to i-frame them. F-Splasher DOES NOT WORK. X can hit you out of that with everything in his arsenal.
Number of attempts to No Damage this stage: 13
