Mega Man X6, speedrun through the intro stage with no damage taken. Played on Xtreme Mode with Unarmored X (or Naked X). This is NOT my next no damage run. This is just me showing you the type of stuff I do sort of keep my gameplay in shape, but also to bring awareness to some movement mechanics that are exclusive to X6.

X and Zero can perform an instant dash without the lag from the start-up animation by crouching before dashing. This might not seem like a big deal, but this makes a HUGE difference in keeping full momentum and even dodging certain enemies that were hard to get away from after a jump, merely because of that dash lag. Master this and you'll get movement speed that's almost as fluid as the Zero series.

Exclusive to X himself (which is why I made this video with him) is the Z-Saber wall kick. I did it very sloppy in the video because I'm still practicing with it, but you can see it done successfully in the last wall kick I did on the long wall before I did the dash wall kick to the opposite side. This is much more tricky to do: you have to hold the direction where you're facing the wall, then slash before you kick. When you kick, IMMEDIATELY slash again and repeat the process. You'll get a much faster wall climb as a result. I recommend trying this out slow first before trying to execute this tech fast. Once you get the timing down at a slower pace, gradually speed it up. I'm in the process of doing that myself.

If you watch any AGDQ speedrun of X6, they'll mention the saber wall kick, but never really go into detail on how to do it. So, there ya go.

Update on my X5 run: I've been having stagnant progress with editing because I've been trying to devote more time to writing my book and getting a department change at my job. But the more grueling issue is being unable to peg exactly how I want to edit these videos going forward. I've grown dissatisfied with the breakdown segments because I feel that no one cares for them (aside from a few fans of the segments. You know who you are, bros) and I'm trying to eliminate unnecessary presentation aspects to make the editing process more engrossing.

One reason I even did the Breakdown segment was to add more watch time to my non-final stage videos, so youtube would promote them better. The disadvantage of playing MM games at my current level of mastery is that the stages brisk on by, and as a result, REALLY short video. My videos tend to have outstanding audience retention on the regular, but that doesn't really matter if the videos themselves aren't long enough. And even with the breakdown segment, videos never reached the 10 minute mark (which is the standard for winning over the algorithm). Pretty sure this video will suffer the same fate as the rest, lmao. The idea of cramming extra content just to stretch the video three times it's natural length doesn't sit well with me. It seems like a short video only does good if A LOT of people watch it within the first week.

And I don't want to do compilations anymore because the retention's terrible on those. So... reversed problem, haha. So, I've resolved to just cut my losses and focus on making these short videos as visually appealing as possible; maybe with some funny edits here and there, too. Gonna bring back the long ass descriptions too, haha. Either way, I'm not going to sell myself out to win over the algo. I'm planning on retiring from this sometime in late 2020 or 2021 anyway, since I need to make some sacrifices here and there once I can truly take off with my novelist career. So, I'm at least trying to leave a legacy for myself behind before I go - hopefully I can find a young buck along the way to pass the torch onto, ahaha.

...or you know, I can put one of you through Mega Man Boot Camp.
