Please note: I am not playing at a high skill level. This is meant to be a guide for beginners or people who find this game too hard, so playing with too much practice would be self-defeating. This was recorded after I hadn't played a Mega Man game in over a year, on purpose.

This is a rare case where we have the "cleanup" step not coming last for a level. This is because the second half of Metal Shark Player's stage is frustrating in every way, including Reploid collection. In my opinion this second crusher is the worst stage in the game outside of the Gate levels (and even then, only second to the Gate crusher level). It takes all of the trials of the previous crusher and adds forced crouching (which enemies can shoot you out of, causing instant death), spikes, ice, and ice leading to spikes.

Furthermore, there are three Reploids in this area, and the second one has the Life-Up. We want to get all of our Life-Ups for Zero because he's who we'll be using for the Gate stages, but the final Reploid in this area is absolutely awful to save as anyone other than Shadow X (and not a walk in the park for him, either). So we're going to do our "cleanup" as Zero, grabbing the first two Reploids, then come back to finish the level as Shadow X.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure I actually believe the effort here is worth the single Life-Up. If you're struggling to get through the second crusher with Zero, then just let Shadow X do this entire stage on his own. Between Shock Buffer, D-Barrier, the Life Recover Limited Part, and two E-Tanks, I think you'd be fine for the Gate stages. Nonetheless, doing this the long way allows me to show the strategy for this stage as both Zero and Shadow X, so here we go.

0:10 I should have swapped Shock Buffer out for Hyper Dash, but it really doesn't make a ton of difference when you're not going for the bonus area. It can save some close calls though.

1:15 Since the last time we were here, we've gained Blaze Heatnix's power. It's really convenient in this stage, and great at killing Nightmares.

2:20 Don't rush this bit. Without Hyper Dash it's actually quite tight. If you brought Hyper Dash then this is a breeze, but I'd still recommend using your Giga Attack to kill the enemy while freezing the crusher in place.

3:02 Looks scarier than it is. You've got a clear path to the Reploid and the Nightmare is slow, don't let this bit freak you out.

3:09 DO NOT kill this guy. This spot of ice leading to these spikes is a very effective and annoying trap. Leaving the Nightmare alive here will do some harmless chip damage while keeping your D-Barrier up in case you slip into the spikes.

3:19 This guy you can kill or not, the next wall of spikes isn't much of a trap. I like to leave him alive because I have missed this jump by pixels before, and it's a really annoying place to die. We're almost to our goal.

3:34 The next little area here, both on the ground and on the platform, you MUST be ducking. And if you accidentally release duck too early, your character bashes his skull into the ceiling with such intensity that he explodes. Be extremely cautious here, especially with another ice trap leading to spikes. This time you cannot leave a Nightmare around for the iframes, because if your character is hit by any attack while ducking, they stand up so hard they explode (sensing a theme...).

3:44 With the Life-Up Reploid grabbed, we're done here. I suicide my way out, and we'll be coming back with Shadow X to finish things off.
