Please note: I am not playing at a high skill level. This is meant to be a guide for beginners or people who find this game too hard, so playing with too much practice would be self-defeating. This was recorded after I hadn't played a Mega Man game in over a year, on purpose.

1:05 I know it's possible to avoid all of the fire pillars in this area, but bear in mind I'm trying to teach you "easy" strats, and it really doesn't get a lot easier than this.

3:43 We finally get our second E-Tank. We probably could have made a diversion for this earlier, but we haven't had much need for it since defeating Mijinion and I didn't want to raid this area without Giga Attack because of the donuts.

3:51 I decide it's time to stop ducking High Max. I've got to commit suicide 10 times to get out of this area, which is going to take a bit time investment. With Blaze Heatnix's power we now have everything we need to make High Max pretty easy so there's no reason to keep avoiding him, and I'm going to want to farm Dynamo as X in the next area to get him a part slot before returning to the Recycle Center.

[EDIT]: Turns out you never need to give Shadow X a part, so you can feel free to skip High Max & Dynamo.

If you really don't want to deal with another High Max fight in your run, consider this optional. Feel free to avoid him, and instead use Yammark Option to have Falcon/Blade X farm 500 Nightmare Souls in the Museum. It shouldn't take long.

There's another alternative to this as well. My Zero at this point has about 2400 Nightmare Souls. Once I kill Blizzard Wolfgang that will be about 2600. If you're doing about that well or better, then you can just farm Zero up to 3000 souls instead of dealing with X. Getting 3000 souls will also unlock the Gate stages, and therefore Dynamo for X to kill.

I'm continuing to operate under the assumption of "minimal souls" for the sake of this guide, though, which would only be about 1200 right now.

4:21 By using Heatnix's power here instead of Ensuizen, you're guaranteed to stun High Max, but not knock him down. This gives you a guaranteed change to Z-Buster him, which deals more damage than anything else you can do and speeds up the fight a lot.

4:27 I mess up my defense here. In order to dodge this move properly, you need to be about 25% across the screen before you start your set of double jumps, followed by a quick wall jump. Then you dash toward High Max, then back away. When done properly, this will always avoid all three waves of blasts. Since I'm standing in the corner already, High Max is able to track me to the top of the screen, making the attack harder to avoid.

4:38 I know from High Max's animation/audio here that he's about to just put his shield up again. When he does this it's wasted time, so I just milk some minor damage.

4:45 I mess up my initial positioning again. This time I'm too close to High Max, so once again my evasion pattern gets off. A couple of further mistakes leads to a decent recovery, and I still get in a Z-Buster shot.

5:03 After completely failing to double jump his energy orb attack, I finally have my positioning right for the smaller blasts. You can see the pattern I was discussing earlier played out properly here.

5:47 Once High Max goes to the center of the screen, it's best to just consider the fight a slug-out. He'll sacrifice all defense for offense and you should do the same. If you've got an E-Tank this would be a good time to use it but as you can see here, with Shock Buffer and D-Barrier even a measly 25% of my health bar is enough to outlast him at this stage of the game. Keep in mind I started this fight with only about 2/3rds of my health anyway. If you come in with a full life bar you should easily be able to get to this phase of the fight with 50% health or more and take High Max down without breaking a sweat.

6:40 Having beaten High Max, we've unlocked the Gate Stages. Since this is a 100% run, though, we'll be ignoring him for a good while.

6:49 I realize I've missed two Reploids somewhere in the Magma Area. I forgot to take the bottom path, so I have to head back now to do that. More donuts... yay...

9:46 This is one of those "in immediate danger" Reploids. The Nightmare will pretty much be moving in on him before you can see them. Save him fast. It's probably better to just use more Giga Attacks and kill the donut faster, so you can approach this Reploid at your own pace and not deal with the added risk from the autoscrolling.

It takes me a second to realize I'm finished and can just leave, but with that, we're done with the Magma Area.
