Mega Man X8 No Damage (Layer): Bamboo Pandamonium [Hard Mode]
Mega Man X8 (Layer/Zero): No damage taken, where I'm playing through the game on Hard Mode. It's a NG+ file, so of course, I'll have all of the weapons. This is not a minimalist run, so I'm using everything at my disposal, but still remaining fair for the No Damage challenge. This is the Legacy Collection version, so all game-breaking glitches are no longer present and I'm playing Mega Man X8 glitch-free; the way it's supposed to be. Before you ask, the custom music I use will be listed below near the end of the description. Thanks for stopping by.
Out with another trash stage, in with another fabulous stage: Booster Forest. Given how chill Bamboo Pandamonium is, his stage's atmosphere fits along with it. But theme aside, this is a pretty nicely designed stage that, like Dark Mantis, is a complete joy to go through from beginning to end. Going at your own pace with no cheap stuff in the way is nice, and while the Ride Armor enemies can force D-Glaive + Rasetsusen spam due to me being early in the run, it's nothing too bad. The room where there's an army of them is actually a bit more execution heavy than it looks. Sure, you're just safe in the upper left corner shredding them, but if you allow the full Rasetsusen to go through, chances are, you'll go falling right into the range of their punches. A full Rasetsusen will kill one, but if another is right behind the one you destroyed, he'll smack you good. This is why I take small hits at them first, then stop the spinning so I can control the direction I fall back (because if you finish Rasetsusen, you're vulnerable until you hit the ground), grab onto the wall, then hit a full Rasetsusen to finish them both off. Mistime the process of pausing your spinning and you've got a high chance at a failed take.
But otherwise, everything is pretty damn tame and fun. Getting no damage was not only fun, but also gave me the opportunity to use D-Glaive in more ways outside of it's standard Rasetsusen spam most people on youtube abuse in every single stage these days.
Bamboo Pandamonium himself is probably one of the easier bosses... when you take his weird hitboxes out of the equation. Really, you have to stay aggressive to avoid him using more than one Green Spinner (he doesn't use it again if you're always up close to him) and from there, he's fairly easy to dodge and react to while getting in good combo damage. But what makes him somewhat of a problem is how inconsistent his hurtboxes are (which is why I need to take a look at the data itself one day...). There are PLENTY of times where he hit me when I didn't even touch his body or arms. When he does that multi-stab, the last big strike can STILL hit you if you're within at least the distance of the size of his claws. He can also do the same when he goes into Overdrive for his near-insta-death thrust. Sometimes, the wind up swipe he does before charging can hit you, even if it didn't touch you. Yet... if you're DEAD in his face, it doesn't hit you... wtf, game? That leads me to believe Bamboo Pandamonium's hurtboxes are divided in his arms, meaning the center of his forearms and other places of his arm may actually just be blank space with no hurtbox...
I bet you're wondering why I didn't use D-Glaive against him and really, it's simple: it trivializes his design. This boss was meant to keep you out from getting too close to him with his superior mid-range, so using D-Glaive here just takes any sort of challenge whatsoever out this guy. D-Glaive is a very good boss weapon, but it can be too good sometimes. Honestly, it beats the Sigma Blade in boss battles to me because SB limits the amount of hits you can get in due to auto-guard break. D-Glaive and the Z-Saber/Rapier can get better DPS.
Overall, when the hurtboxes aren't being stupid, it's a fairly easy no damage battle.
