Well, it's finally here. A trip into the past due to Gate's shenanigans is all said and done with. What happens? Luckily, X & Zero get spat out back in their own time...but also, Copy Z, Fefnir, and Harpuia. Turns out they got stuck in the vortex after using the time portal device.

As for the device responsible for sending the duo back in time? It's still active and attempts to pull a repeat performance. Unfortunately, it kindly gets asked to shut off forever by being blown up from none other than Duo from MM8.

Duo's a protector of the universe and dealt with evil energy on Earth in the past. Sensing it's back, he's returned, but he has no clue of where the source of the evil energy originates. Copy Z's team decides to go ahead and find some answers while Duo joins X & Zero for some clean up work in the intro stage.

Stat wise, as a reminder...X once again has the lowest starting stats. On the plus side though, the difference isn't nearly as widespread compared to the last game. Oh yes, he's also got a slower exp gain compared to Duo & Zero. Enough that he'll usually lag a level or two behind once you get a fair bit into the game.

Oh yes, Duo? His stats are the best of the trio, especially his hp. He even has his own starting skill, Duo Slash. 15 WE for 100-120 damage? Not bad, but for the intro stage, using that every fight can burn through that 200 WE reserve really quickly. Likewise for Zero's Z-Cannon (10 WE per use for about the same damage as Duo Slash).

X though? His trusty X Missile MkI, while not doing anywhere near the damage of those two skills (Only around 30-40 damage right now), only costs 4 WE per use. He could spam this every fight he gets into here and, if he runs dry of WE, it's only going to happen at the end. Maybe.

As you climb up out of room you start in, you see the place hasn't fared very well. Buildings destroyed or on fire, damage everywhere. Basically, the trio is going through the intro stage when this entire game started, but in reverse.

As for the enemies, most only do 30-40 damage at best, but the giant trucks can do upwards of 70 damage. They're also rather durable. Most enemies die to a single Duo Slash or Z-Cannon, but the costs of those two skills and your limited resources right now makes that something hard to sustain throughout the stage. Hell, some enemies like those giant trucks and the enemies with a giant spiked shield in front can survive one of those two attacks. Luckily though, a follow up missile from X will kill the latter with an additional normal strike needing to be tossed in for the giant trucks.

After making it to where everything began (and listening to the pretty rad intro theme for Zero's route in X5), you can head through a couple doors to meet the intro boss. Most of his fixed damage attacks do 40-45 to the trio, but the one where he charges forward and brings down his massive roller on the team does 80. Other than that, just empty your remaining WE reserves, only refilling if you literally came into the battle with both Duo & Zero empty or near empty on WE.

After the battle, the warning horn blares again. Oh hell, is there gonna be two intro bosses in a row? No, no there isn't. High Max from X6 and Gate's right hand man does come in though. He doesn't waste too much time snatching up the evil energy the boss dropped and taking off. No doubt it'll be used in another bid to destroy the earth.

Back at base, the usual maverick detection radar fires off again. Looks like the dismantlement of some more former bosses gets to begin anew!

There's lots to explain here, but that'll be for next time. I do show off the shop's wares this go around (and you can probably guess at what point I stopped to read something and was chuckling inside for a bit).
