As you could (possibly?) see, Puzzle Fighter went off without a hitch and there was no major network latency issue to speak of throughout its proceedings. Of course, it could simply have been better about not making such things into a major issue than Meteos Wars, but even that is a factor in the player's overall experience.

After the not-so-brief interlude (of which there's still more to come, mind you), we decided in light of the lack of significant playability problems that Meteos Wars get another try just to see if it indeed was specifically having problems. As it so happens, it wasn't, although for whatever reason those problems were no longer a problem will perhaps forever remain a mystery.

Enough about that, it means we can have some actual planetary bombardment!

Match #1
Yooj (YuuGiJoou) vs. Gravitas (The Overhazard)

I must be worse than usual when I start out a new session of Meteos Wars, because I'd thought to myself that Gravitas ought not pose much problem for... well, any planet that can survive its onslaughts. Since Gravitas can't (normally) chain and needs a lot of time and attention to do a planetary clear (even if it's entirely assured if you pull the maneuver off properly), I just figured the ball was in my court to wander lonely as a cloud without getting too badly rained upon.

Perhaps it's not that I somehow picked up the ability Slow Start and more that this thought festered in the back of my mind and made me think I could kick back and relax and just play as the falling blocks dictate I should.

I watch this and I can't help but wonder what on earth was taking me so long to do anything sometimes... and at other times, I cringe at the unintended double-ignitions prematurely jettisoning my clusters into the ether. Ah well, I'm sure it was fun by the standards of the cloudcuckoolander at the helm when it was actually happening. Past-me is always doing things to annoy present-me, but I won't let that happen!

Match #2
Gigagush (The Overhazard) vs. Dejeh (YuuGiJoou)

I do remember how this selection went... basically, I ALSO landed on Gigagush, but I'd "learned" my lesson from the mercifully-aborted Hevendor mirror match and decided to re-roll... and got Dejeh, the planet I "put back" and previously forced another "randomization" for on the grounds that I use it too much and it may not be entirely fair to subject other planets to its presence. Well, I don't know about you, but trying to pseudorandomize manually is not a fun thing to do, so I settled for only one do-over and let Dejeh happen anyway... and, I mean, I might just have a low opinion of Gigagush, but I'm pretty sure the concept of fairness just died a horrible and thoughtless death at the hands of my own laziness.

Still, it's Dejeh, and it makes me happy to visit, so there.

Match #3
Wuud (The Overhazard) vs. Jeljel (YuuGiJoou)

I'm going to be honest... while Wuud's particulars might elude me, I do recall it being the kind of planet that starts ignition chains and just kinda likes to let them hang in the air while they snowball. Jeljel, on the other hand... I can't even tell you the first thing about it besides the fact that it has a neat sound set... in both Meteos on the DS and Meteos Wars, in fact.

But this should hardly surprise anybody, since that's definitely the most significant criterion by which I seem to judge planets. THEN it's how much fun they are to play and all the little details that affect that experience be damned.

Anyway, suffice to say that I never expected planetary negotiations to go this way.

I guess it's just a matter of relative speeds, and Wuud just likes to let it all hang out a bit too long for its own good while Jeljel builds towards planetary clears, creating rather troublesome amounts of score and garbage.
