Whoa, what? What's going on here?! This is weird. More shenanigans from way back when I was on that Free Gold Weekend thing (boy do I manage to give them a workout, huh?), I decided I would drop in and see if I could catch a match on a game this old and outmoded.

Obviously, since this video exists, I did get some. Actually I got more than some. I got way more than should even be possible with Continuum Shift, Continuum Shift II, and Continuum Shift Extend on home versions and Chrono Phantasma already out in Japanese arcades.

...y'think maybe this series should slow down just a bit on the release cycles?

---

Anyway, I wouldn't ordinarily want to do this to myself, but there's a bunch of battles here... more than I would normally want to keep as one video, but I didn't find enough that I wanted to make more than one video of my random matchmaking experiences, so here we go. The length isn't really prohibitive in any way, seeing as how the YouTube upload length limits don't apply... but the description character count!

Well, okay,it's not like I can provide a ton of insight per match (I don't play this game much at all, I swear it was just on a lark that I decided to pay some pittance to acquire it!), so I guess maybe we'll be okay. Maybe. (Be strong.)

---

Match #1 -- Requiem
Rachel Alucard (YuuGiJoou) vs. Ragna the Bloodedge (LordierCoffee4)

It took me almost the whole first match to get used to the flow of Rachel's special attacks, last of all the Sword Iris trigger that actually makes her traps worthwhile... I'm actually legitimately surprised that I was able to stay alive long enough to do so.

---

Match #2 -- The Gate
Carl Clover (YuuGiJoou) vs. Haku-men (sion barazd1980)

Okay, now this is more like the kind of experience I was expecting. You don't even have to be particularly good at the game to kill me, mind you, so sion barazd1980 is definitely overqualified.

I mean, I don't care who you are, even blindly attacking will get you somewhere if I'm already defeating myself with the distraction of trying to figure out how to make Ada do something against a moving target, so you can imagine that fiercely swinging around a gigantic hurtstick can only help matters. No special moves necessary whatsoever.

---

Match #3 -- Ronin-Gai
Noel Vermillion (infra red 201) vs. Bang Shishigami (YuuGiJoou)

Now this is more like it. Hopefully infra red 201 wouldn't be too upset if I say that I consider this one of the few actual on-the-level decently close matchups in terms of player skill level... no, that still sounds like an insult to suggest anybody's on MY level, but I did it, and nobody can stop me. I mean, I already did it. It's in the past. Also good luck to infra red 201 on actually finding out I did so, much less getting revenge. (Yes, the perfect crime!)

Anyway, this basically taxed all my considerably-lacking ninjutsu know-how to put up even this amount of a fight. I just wish I could've completed the Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan, but on second thought it's probably way better for my health (both on- and offscreen) that I didn't.

---

Match #4 -- Orient Town
Haku-men (sion barazd1980) vs. Iron Tager (YuuGiJoou)

All right! Now pick on someone your own size! ...or, failing that, pick a fight with someone bigger, maybe? Oh well, same situation, different day... slightly less distraction due to having no idea how to use a character in live battle. (Now I'm only mostly clueless rather than totally.)

Oh, and I guess Tager's big fists are good for something, even if that sword is still longer than his arm's length.

---

Match #5 -- Cathedral
Jin Kisaragi (YuuGiJoou) vs. Jin Kisaragi (SNakESREVEGE)

I hate mirror matches in situations like these if only because the difference in ability just happens to stand out that much more as a result. Of course, the bigger and more pertinent reason to dislike them is because a match with only one character in it is by default only half as interesting as it would've been otherwise.

---

Match #6 -- Kagutsuchi Port PM 9:00
Ragna the Bloodedge (YuuGiJoou) vs. Ragna the Bloodedge (BerialFlames)

What did I JUST say? ...well, at least we get a double shot of Patrick Seitz. I guess I can live with that. Also, because Ragna is fairly slow and deliberate (by BlazBlue standards, anyway), I'm not entirely cast out of the running before we even begin, I guess.

---

Match #7 -- Cathedral
Noel Vermillion (YuuGiJoou) vs. Jin Kisaragi (SNakESREVEGE)

Well, if I'm bad at using even someone relatively straightforward to understand like Jin against Jin, I feel distinctly sorry for the Lieutenant here. Well, actually, Noel is at least surface-simpler still than Jin, but she requires a lot of rapid inputs and I refuse to mash (not that it would do me any good anyway), since any ground gained that way would be meaningless and unfulfilling without the understanding to back it up.

...that's not some kind of macho (me? HA!) conceit, it's the reason I can so enjoy a genre I'm so relatively bad at.
