2 consecutive battles in the series of dirt-covered room confrontations, fortunately they both went well, Samus got real fortunate against the Gamma Metroid. If you find these battles unbearable, then it is probably a good idea to get the Wave Beam, but it can easily be done without it. Keep your eye out for those Recharge Stations, both Energy and Missile; they conserve a lot of time without resorting to continually killing enemies for Energy and Missile Drops, which NES Metroid used to recover.
