So far, Metroid II has been fairly linear. Go to side area, defeat all Metroids, lava in main tunnels drains, proceed to next side area, lather, rinse, repeat. Well, it's time for things to get a little odd. The next two phases are pretty short all around, only having one and two Metroids respectively. The tricky bit is the positioning of the sectors, which requires a little back and forth backtracking...
