Metroid (NES) - How to get the Hard-to-Reach Missile in Ridley’s Hideout #shorts
Anyone who has attempted to get all the missile packs in the game will no doubt find out that one stands alone from the others. This missile pack is in a long vertical room in Ridley’s hideout and requires a precise jump through a gap at the top of the room with a low hanging ceiling in the way. To find this room head left from the entrance elevator, passing through two white block rooms, a longer green block room, and finally arrive at another white block room with an energy tank just beyond a false floor. The false floor is located on the second and third blocks to the right of the energy tank. Take the shortcut by falling through this false ceiling to arrive in a long vertical purple block room. From the purple block room head right to pass through another green block room and through the next door to find yourself in the upper half of another purple block room with the notorious gap in front of you.You can make the jump by leaping from the exact edge of the platform, but you must be exact. If you don’t go far enough to the right before hitting the lowered ceiling, you will miss the ledge and fall to the bottom of the long vertical room. If you miss crossing this gap in one go you will need to work your way all the way back to the top of the hideout for another shot which can be a couple minute detour in the best conditions.I have found other videos on the web that show making the jump by rolling off the edge of the platform as a ball, press up to un-morph in midair, jump in midair without hitting either the left or right button, and then use the directional button to steer you onto the platform after you have jumped. My issue with this was all the inputs and remembering that the left and right directional buttons will cancel your ability to midair jump. Additionally, you can make a mistake and accidentally hit either the left or right directional button when you intended to hit up. My solution employs the same midair jump tactic but takes away the un-morph in midair step. Apparently Samus can still perform the midair jump from an upright position instead if you allow a bomb to push you off the edge. Position yourself about a character worth of space away from the right edge of the gap and place a bomb in the morph state. Before the bomb explodes un-morph and position yourself a little right of center of the bomb but remain in its blast radius (It doesn’t take much side ward movement at all as shown in the video). Keep your hands of the D-pad at this point and the bomb will explode pushing Samus off the edge and up against the lower part of the opposing side. At this point press the jump button to get Samus to jump in midair. Slightly after you hit the jump button use the d-pad to steer her onto the right side of the gap. Now that the hard part is done, the missile pack will be just a small area of enemies away.I find this method is more repeatable for me and accomplishes the same midair jump. Hopefully this helps those that have issues with the morph ball method.
