Metroid: Samus Returns ALL BOSSES DEFEATED!
This one has a Xenomorph looking one.
I may be repeating myself, but this was another one ive been looking forward to, and for good reason since this is the one game I own physically. I played this game years ago on my 3DS XL and back then it was an absolute blast. I loved every minute of it. Fast forward 8 years later (Man, I feel old) to now, what do i think about it?
Well, I still adore this game. With the power of emulation and upscaling, this helped me appreciate the game even more as I noticed details that I overlooked when I played it back when I was younger. For 3DS graphics, the game looks great. While I prefer pixel graphics, this game's visuals are amazing and bring the world to life. As youre exploring the areas, there's always stuff going on in the background wether it be ruins, crystals or creatures roaming in the background. Its a massive visual upgrade to the Game Boy game. Also the music is great with amazing remixes of both the original and other game's tracks.
Another thing I absolutely loved is the gameplay. They evolved the gameplay of Samus by adding special abilities in the form of Aeion Abilities which makes combat and exploration more engaging, and a parry button which back then was a thing unseen in games like this (From what Ive played at least). The parrying makes enemy and boss encounters more fun as you can just hit them and then blast them in the face which never gets old. Its such a fun mechanic and one of the most fun parrying mechanics ive seen in a game.
The bosses are a massive step up from the original as well. They turned the simplistic fights from Metroid 2 and turned them into actual bosses with their own movesets and mechanics, plus they added a few new ones to the roster in the form of Diggernaut and Ridley. The fights are engaging and make use of your abilities in excellent ways which makes each encounter interesting and fresh, although it can get old fighting the 10th Gamma Metroid or Alpha Metroid. This game has possibly the best boss fights in 2D Metroid.
As for my issues with the game, it can feel like a drag and can be tedious at times since youre fighting the same metroid types early on up to the mid-game which gets a little stale.
Overall, I still love the game and emulating it made me appreaciate it more. An amazing remake of a Game Boy classic.
My favorite bosses are: Zeta Metroid, Omega Metroid, Metroid Queen and Proteus Ridley.
