Having located the power substation powering the door leading into missile silo housing Metal Gear, Big Boss is warned that due to the secondary generator being set to activate five minutes after the main one goes offline, he will have to infiltrate the substation and place a timed remote explosive meant to be activated once he is ready to breach the silo. Big Boss does so, however, as he leaves the substation, he is ambushed by Null who has apparently breached his containment in order to find and face Big Boss in battle once more. As they confront each other again, Big Boss recognizes Null as a boy named Frank Jaeger, child soldier who fought in Mozambique four years prior, being infamous for cruel murders of opposing soldiers whom he used to lull into false sense of security with his young age and supposed naivete. However, Frank refuses to listen and attacks Big Boss, provoking a brief fight after which Frank, supposedly brought back to his senses, agrees to admit defeat and go back with Big Boss in order to recover. With timed explosive in place at the substation's main switchboard, Big Boss is told that the infiltration into missile silo is ready to commence...
