MGS: Portable Ops Walkthrough Part 14: Saving Big Boss
With Big Boss in captivity, Jonathan heads to the silo entrance in order to try and learn where Big Boss was taken after being captured, ultimately learning that he was taken to a guest house somewhere on the peninsula.
Meanwhile, Cunningham is personally torturing Big Boss before Gene sends him off. Once alone with Big Boss, he reveals that the entire incident on San Hieronymo was Gene's personal rebellion against CIA as him and FOX Unit were ordered to steal Metal Gear in order to hand it over to Soviet Union while pretending to have gone rogue, this having been done in order to prolong the Cold War which is currently inching closer to its resolution as both US and Soviet Union can no longer invest in new weapons like they used to due to budget issues plaguing both superpowers. In addition, US is poised to win the Cold War due to having developed MIRV technology for its ICBMs with which USSR cannot compete and both US and USSR are undergoing the first round of SALT talks meant to reduce the number of nuclear weapons each country possesses with CIA knowing that Soviet possession of Metal Gear would escalate the conflict back into its early days. Gene also reveals that he decided to rebel in order to carve out his own world order by ensuring that the Cold War ends. He also explains the nature of his seemingly supernatural charisma, claiming that he was a part of the Successor Project, a top-secret project meant to artificially create the ultimate field commander with peak-level combat ability, strategic genius and charisma patterned after The Boss.
Meanwhile, Campbell and Big Boss' soldiers are scrambling to learn the location of the guest house with Jonathan managing to discover it by stealing the map leading to it from the rail bridge area.
Meanwhile, Elisa manages to gain access to Big Boss' cell and tells him that Gene has finished preparing Metal Gear and its location within an assembly plant on the peninsula.
Meanwhile, Jonathan and the rest of the rescue party infiltrate the guest house and eventually find their way into the basement, proceeding to lead Big Boss out despite his shock that they actually came looking for him. He informs the group that he knows the whereabouts of Metal Gear. However, as they leave the house, group is intercepted by Cunningham who reveals that Ursula felt Big Boss' escape and notified him. He proceeds to try and force Snake to tell him where second half of the Philosophers' Legacy ended up, resorting to shooting at Big Boss' soldiers to force him to tell him as he claims not to know anything. Cunningham is stopped as a truck driven by Campbell and Elisa crashes into his flying platform, destroying it with Big Boss and his soldiers climbing aboard and escaping.
Later, truck stops with Elisa taking Big Boss to show him the exact location of the plant housing Metal Gear as she crosses over to his side, revealing to have decided to abandon Gene due to his willingness to use nuclear weapons, being opposed to it due to her and Ursula originally having been the daughters of researchers who died during Kyshtym nuclear accident in 1957 with Elisa and Ursula having developed their psychic powers due to the radiation exposure. Now aware of Metal Gear's location and with Big Boss back in action, the group starts to prepare an attack on the assembly plant in order to destroy Metal Gear once and for all, hoping to both take away Gene's ace-in-the-hole and prove Big Boss' innocence in front of US' government...
