Hello everyone! And here's another update on my Minecraft Rome Map.

In this series I will make small videos about the updates of my Minecraft Rome project. In this project I'm recreating ancient Rome in the year 200 AD. Currently I'm busy with what I call the 'Beautification Updates'. These updates are about changing various buildings to look better as well as placing them in the right position (I started building this project with a little lack of knowledge of the buildings which has forced me to fix all of this now :P). I hope you'll like the videos.

Colossus of Nero:
This huge statue right in the center of Rome is the Colossus of Nero, a 30 metre high bronze statue made to depict emperor Nero himself as the Roman sun god Apollo (Sol). With its 30 metres, the Colossus of Nero is almost as big as the Statue of Liberty (33 metres from head to toes) and also as big as the Colossus of Rhodes (also 33 metres), one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. Nero's Colossus isn't an ancient world wonder though.

After Nero commited suicide emperor Vespasian wanted to remove every memory of his predecessor, so he removed the head off the statue and replaced it with a head of Apollo (Sol). Later the statue was altered a bunch of times in history. Most remarkably during the reign of emperor Hadrian. The Colossus was built in a garden of Nero's Golden Palace (Domus Aurea), but Hadrian wanted to build his Temple of Venus and Roma on this spot. So Hadrian ordered the statue to be moved. Roman architect Decrianus was given this difficult task, but managed to move the statue to the valley near the Colosseum by using 24 elephants!

The design of the statue is to this day still unknown. The most accepted design showed Apollo (Sol) holding a rudder and steering the Earth, while his sun-ray crown represented the sun itself.

Next video will cover: Horrea Agrippiana
