Minecraft Rome Project - Update #17 - Horrea Agrippiana
Hello everyone! And here's another update on my Minecraft Rome Map.
In this series I will make small videos about the updates of my Minecraft Rome project. In this project I'm recreating ancient Rome in the year 200 AD. Currently I'm busy with what I call the 'Beautification Updates'. These updates are about changing various buildings to look better as well as placing them in the right position (I started building this project with a little lack of knowledge of the buildings which has forced me to fix all of this now :P). I hope you'll like the videos.
Horrea Agrippiana:
The Horrea Agrippiana (Agrippa's warehouses) were a set of warehouses in Rome, built next to the Forum Romanum between the Vicus Tuscus and the Palatine Hill. The building was constructed sometime during the reign of Emperor Augustus and named after Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, a Roman general and best friend of Emperor Augustus.
The building consisted of three enclosed courtyards that were joined together through a series of long hallways. The courtyards were surrounded by covered hallways with beautifully decorated Corinthian columns. The entrance to the building was located at the middle courtyard on the 1st floor of the Palatine side. Like many other horrea the Horrea Agrippiana were mostly used to store grain. This also explains the reason for the high-up entrance, since it prevented mice from entering the warehouse easily. The grain held here was used for Roman markets and local bakeries. It was also held here to give out to people as rations and as a back-up food supply in case of siege or bad harvests.
The area next to the Horrea Agrippiana, the Vicus Tuscus (in this video empty), was filled to the brim with shops, markets and other commercial buildings. This area was the heart of Roman commerce. Many Romans did their everyday shopping in this area. The location was well picked of course, since with the warehouses nearby, the shops could be resupplies very easily.
Next video will cover: Palatium Imperial Palace
