Missing in Action, or M.I.A. for short, is a sequel to Green Beret/Rush'n Attack. Beside having a 2nd player join you, you can also carry multiple special weapons. There's a switch button added to let you swap between them, which works like the one in Namco's Time Crisis 5 gun game. If you lose a life, you lose the subweapon that you were using at that time.
The first three stages are in a random order. Sometimes you go to the left instead of the typical right to progress through a stage. Sometimes you can go off the regular path to find extra weapons. Stage 4 is the enemy base perimeter, 5 is the POW detention area... and there is one more level.
Once the prisoners of war are broken out, you'll have to escort them to a waiting helicopter in stage 6. Enemies will also attack the POWs, not just you. Failing to bring back any POWs will mean an instant game over. Completing your mission means getting a large bonus for each POW saved, and also that you're sent back out there to go find and rescue more of them. The second time around, there will be some changes to the level layouts.
Many others who have replays of this on Youtube tend to quit after they've cleared the first loop. Not me. I want to see that 2nd loop finished.
UPDATE: I've gotten a 2 loop clear on the Japanese version. That's being uploaded now. When it's ready it will be at https://youtu.be/HVb8WK0DVFA .
