UPDATE: This video is officially obsolete. At https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwSxMAZfuqc there is a much better run of M.I.A.'s Japanese version. No-Miss on the 1st loop, and a bit more progress (reaching loop 3 stage 4). If you get to loop 3, I hope you haven't lost too many of your extra lives in 1 and 2... because this is where you will need them.

Missing In Action (arcade/Japan ver. R)
played by Judgment Storm
Score: 1.134.990
Two loops cleared. Game is over at stage 3-2 boss. No POWs were allowed to die, so I saved a total of 6.

CONTENT ADVISORY: Strong violence.

17:42 2nd Loop Start
34:00 If you run out of time, this helicopter will come out to off you.
37:03 3rd Loop Start

Game settings used are the defaults:
Difficulty: Normal
Starting lives: 3
1-Ups: 30.000 then every 80.000 after (110.000, 190.000, etc)

This is the original Japanese version of MIA, which like more than a few other Konami games is a bit different from its international versions.

All stages scroll to the right, similarly to Green Beret. Some stages scroll leftward in the international one, which also randomises the order of the first 3 stages.
Here the rocket launcher's behavior is similar to GB as well, where a rocket will pierce through several enemies. It was nerfed for the international version... in that, you'll have the rocket explode on contact when it hits something. Also, the red stars on the vehicles at the enemy air base in the Japanese version were removed for the international one. A little censorship there?

Since a POW saved is worth 80.000 points, you can get three extra lives at once if you make sure all POWs return safely. If all three get killed... well, don't let that happen. Losing all three will fail the mission, and force an instant Game Over no matter how many lives you've built up.
