Mission 10: Let My People Go | SEAL Team Insertion | 688 (I) Hunter/Killer | Retro
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Captain Chang Plays... 688 (I) Hunter/Killer
In the previous episode, we destroyed two Kilo subs attacking civilian shipping in the Persian Gulf.
Single Mission 10: Let My People Go
MISSION: Flash traffic // Deploy to the Colombian coast with a SEAL team, which will likely to call upon to perform a rescue of American hostages. Hostiles have several patrol boats in the area. Deal with them if they interfere.
We are operating in VERY shallow waters, and there is at least one helicopter in the area. The patrol boats are Turya class, armed with sonars AND radars, and plenty of torpedoes. And there are THREE of them.
We detected two Turyas right away, one to the south, and one to the west. We decided to deal with them early. We went to periscope depth for intel download, while streaming the towed array, then shot two torpedoes, one for each Turya.
The one to the south was destroyed by the torpedo.
The one to the east ran aground and sunk itself. My torpedo just completed the destruction.
We detected another Turya to the south-southeast. We fired another torpedo, but that one did not track, even though I tried everything to get it to track.
In the meanwhile, we headed toward the deployment location at 10 kt, in 160 ft of water, and fortunately, the location is close enough that even when we slowed down to 5 kt about 5 nm out, we will be ahead of 0200 deadline by 15 minutes.
We tried ANOTHER torpedo, but I forgot the set the depth setting and it got stuck in the muddy bottom. I fired another, and this one was set properly, and finally chased down the last Turya.
The Helix seems to be obsessed over the sunken Turya to the west, as it dropped a torpedo in the area, which hit the wreckage again. It then left to scan to our northwest.
The SEAL team was out by 0148, and we settled down to wait. The orders did say we must pick them up by 0400, but it didn't say they'll row back here, or how will they signal us. We did get a radio message that says we have to surface to get them onboard due to rescued civilians.
We heard a dock go boom-boom at about 0300.
We endured the constant pinging until 0352. I said we should surface now, even though we detected no rafts near us.
We did, and sure enough, the SEALs boarded quickly with the rescuees. Apparently, they had to abandon their raft as a distraction.
We submerged and transmitted the mission end report.
We got 900 pts, as we destroyed all three Turya boats, and both dropped off and picked up the SEAL team, but -50 x 2 for having been detected by two of the Turyas (how?!)
We're ready for the FINAL single mission...
