Mitch In Real Life (Octonauts)
Octonauts’ treasure hunting wouldn’t be successful without Mitch and his friend’s help. This giant but very friendly Humpback Whale is a charmer in real life!
Let’s get to know Mitch in real life better! Let’s start by comparing their appearances. They share dark blue or sometimes black color in the upper part and white shade on their lower part. According to Oceana, Humpback Whales can grow up to 60 feet and weigh up to 80,000 pounds.
Let’s now delve into their abilities. From what we have read from National Geographic, Humpback Whales perform a “song” that can travel a great distance that serves as a communication to other whales or can be used to attract potential mates. In the series, Mitch used this “song” to communicate with his friends and as a way to save Kwazii.
Humpback Whales travel alone or sometimes in small groups. Live Science states that whenever they travel together, they communicate, or even touch fins, especially on mother and child relationship, as a form of endearment. We can say that these whales are affectionate.
Another thing, Humpback Whales do create a “bubble net,” just like in the series. According to DiscoverWildlife, they do this as a group. They will dive deep into the fishes’ school and then spiral back up while blowing bubbles. This action makes bubble nets essential to disorient fishes and trap them into a tight ball.
These whales have special filters inside their mouths. These filters are made-up of fringe-like brushes that grow on their upper jaws. Once they take a massive gulp of water, the fishes are trapped inside, and the water is pushed away through the plates.
Their activities might surprise you and make you feel a little daunted but don’t worry; they might look intimidating, but they are gentle and non-aggressive animals.
