Trixie In Real Life (Octonauts)
One of the most unusual behaviors Trixie does is the pig-like sound she makes. You may have heard her make these grunting noises to scare away other creatures that try to occupy her home.
This trait is true with real Triggerfish. So, now you know that the weird pig-like noises you hear when swimming along reefs are not a figment of your imagination. According to the Animals Network website, these animals make these sounds to warn other animals when predators are spotted.
Moving on, Trixie lives in one of the Octonauts’ octo-floats that is covered with seaweed and kelp. But in real life, Triggerfish live in shallow waters that are close to the coast. To be more specific, they prefer to stay in coral reefs.
Another thing is that Trixie is possessive of her home, just like Triggerfishes in real life. According to BioExpedition, Triggerfishes are aggressive and protective of their territories. They even attack or bite snorkelers who approach their habitats. For you to tell if this fish is angry, its dorsal fin pops up like a trigger. This piece of information mirrors Trixie’s nature.
One fascinating and notable thing about Triggerfishes is that they are intelligent. We have read from the Snorkeling Thailand blog that they can use rocks or hard shells to smash clams and seashells. Lastly, they keep the reefs healthy by eating invasive species that may harm them, such as sea urchins.
Before we end the video, let us compare Trixie’s appearance to real Triggerfish. In the show, she has a brownish-tan color. However, real Triggerfish vary in color and pattern. There are 40 different species of Triggerfish around the world. And if you look at their photos, they all have distinct prints and pigmentation.
