Moore's Law of transistors in computer chips #shorts #science
Excerpt from the "What is Physics" video ( • What is Physics? Overview of the main... ) regarding Moore's law, and it's limits that we are soon approaching, as computer chips get smaller, and the limits of lithography are pushed. Exploring a little of the characteristics of semiconductors that has lead to a global shortage in the last few years. For more details on the chip shortage check out : • How computer chips are made, and why ...
Semiconductors and chips are increasingly important in a technological society that relies so much on data. We compare the progress of lithography into the nanometer range, and the challenges we will have with the quantum scale. Quantum behavior will force a redesign in semiconductor architecture as we approach the atom layer scale.
Moore's Law states that the density of transistors on microchips will double about every two years. But what happens when transistors get so small that quantum behaviors becoming too prominent for classical computer chip design?
