I just binged watch this entire show within 12 hours yesterday. Went in with little to zero expectations, assuming that they’ll butchered the crap out of Moriarty character-- ended up loving it. I especially like how they delve much deeper into his background and the theme of class distinction, where the wealthy enjoyed far more privileges and had power to abuse the poor, so much to the point that they could ruin countless lives. The writing was clever, and raised questions about Moriarty’s moral compasses versus his methods to achieve absolute justice. In some ways he reminded me of Light Yagami, as they both form this ideal of a “perfect” world through cleansing the ugly--though I probably shouldn’t make that comparison since he came out first along with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes franchise lol. Nevertheless, this show was a pleasant surprise for me. Kudos to those who worked behind this, including the source manga. I appreciated some of the references from the original books, and enjoyed their take on Sherlock Holmes’ character. Don’t get me wrong, he was wack af in this series, but somehow managed to also be charming in his own way. Die-hard fans might find it a little too much and OOC, but I personally thought it was a nice twist to the usual depiction. I’m tired of seeing the same dispassionate and apathetic Holmes anyway. This was quite refreshing, if anything.

Aand of course, we can’t forget the actual titular character, which is Professor Moriarty himself. Like I stated before, I ended up loving him way more than I should in this anime. He was so cunning, so sharp-witted, twisted, and just so goddamn interesting in every way. His presence draws you in immediately, and I really love the casting choice for his voice: Soma Saito gave him a kind and gentle tone, almost as if a red herring of what the character’s really capable of. His interactions with Holmes were especially entertaining to watch. It’s just kinda sad that his true nature will eventually unravel as the show progresses though, and in the time to come he’ll definitely betray Holmes one way or another. I guess it’s true they would’ve been friends in a different life, consider how the series tackle their compatibility really well.

Oh, and speaking of such-- That was also my idea behind this video. Lady Gaga’s Judas had been stuck in my mind for a while, and ironically enough, it’s also the name of the greatest traitor in the Bible. Sounds extremely fitting for someone as devilish as Moriarty, doesn’t it?

Anyhow, enjoy. And watch this series if you can. It’s better than what you think.

Ps: I sorta wish the animation would be on-par with the storyline though. The anime had such a great theme, and it could’ve been a little bit more graphic to deliver the right amount of impact. Other than that, though, I’m all on board for season 2 :))
