Mortal Sin - First Hour Of Gameplay! FPS Roguelike With Some Interesting Visuals!
Mortal Sin came out on March 15th, 2023 (I am late to playing this one lol), and was published and developed by Nikola Todorovic. It can be found on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1494810/Mortal_Sin/
Start of video - Struggler class run
27:30 - Paladin class run
40:45 - Monk class run
I originally saw this as a recommended game because I played Hades and Dead Cells quite a bit (both over 100 hours). After watching the videos on it in the Steam Store, I figured I had to give it a shot since it had such an interesting art style, and I also DO like dungeon crawlers and roguelite games.
I skipped the lore for this video since it would have been super time consuming, so I just kinda jumped in to get to the action. I will definitely go back at some point before my next few runs to catch up on it, but wanted to mainly focus on what the combat and exploration was for the first (almost) hour.
The combat is a lot of fun! It definitely feels fluid, and you have quite a bit of moves in your arsenal, like a kick, and being able to charge attacks that vary depending on your weapon. There are different classes that you can play as, so there are a lot of combat styles to fight your enemies with. One example is the Monk, and how they are more powerful with bare fists instead of using weapons, and also having a sweep kick. I am interested to see how every class works!
Mortal Sin has a dismemberment system, which is not just fun to watch as limbs go flying in all directions, but also very helpful, as decapitating an enemy will cause them to lose sight of you, or hacking off an arm will cripple their attacks they can perform, for example. This can definitely make or break how a fight ends up going when there are multiple enemy types in the same room, especially with the bosses.
The game being a lot of fun to play is a huge bonus, but what first made me want to just at least try it out, were the visuals. They are super interesting, and it just feels to me that the game does so much with so little. The detail is really good, and I never felt lost, or felt like I couldn't tell what was going on. It's so weird, but I honestly really like it! I CAN, however, see this game being unplayable for some people with color blindness, or that have issues getting nauseous playing FPS games.
Can't wait to see what else this game has to offer as I play some more and unlock more content! I'd say give it a try if this is your type of game, it is definitely worth the price ($20 USD)!
