Maniac came out on March 28th, 2024. It was developed by Transhuman Design and published by Skystone Games. It can be found on Steam at: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1482380/Maniac/

Maniac is CHAOTIC! Basically, you have a set amount of time to cause havoc in the world, and the more you cause, the more the Cops want to take you down. After a while, you will have SWAT and the Army after you, which can become a cluster super fast. Apparently you are suppose to survive 20 minutes until a Nuke hits, but I haven't lasted that long yet.

You can jack any vehicle in the game, ranging from Taxis and Motorcycles, to Fire Trucks and Tanks. It is a good idea to try and always have a vehicle, as it obviously helps you survive longer, and the better the vehicle, the more damage it can take before you have to bail and grab a new one (or blow up with it, your choice!). There are also upgrades in the game that allow you to drive faster and have more armor, but some of them are only for the current vehicle you are driving, so make sure to pay attention to what the upgrades say.

There seems to be 6 characters to play as, but Santa is the default character, and after highlighting the others, it seems that you have to meet certain requirements to unlock them, not just purchase them with in-game currency. Going to have to see what these requirements are next time I jump in-game, as I am curious what all the different loadouts and abilities the characters get are.

You collect money by killing people and blowing up stuff, which can be used to unlock permanent upgrades such as extra damage and a bigger explosion radius. It seems that there is a good amount of things to unlock with the cash you earn, and each character looks like they have their own upgrade branches. You can also destroy ambulances while playing, which allows you to get health pickups from the humans inside.

The game is only $5 USD (and is currently 10% off until April 11th), so it is definitely not bad for the price! I would say my biggest complaint (and it isn't that big) is that playing with a controller can feel a bit weird at times when trying to navigate menus. Not a big deal, but just felt a bit janky. If you like GTA style games, or action roguelites, I would say give it a try! There isn't much that the game offers besides blow stuff up, but sometimes, that can be a good waste of 15-30 minutes! Especially for the price.
