One thing I would like to mention right away: You have to press Y/Triangle on controller to wind the flashlight up! It doesn't say this (that I saw), and I got lost in the Asylum level for a bit because I didn't know this. This is why I cut a bit of the first level out, as I am sure you don't want to see me aimlessly wandering around for about 5 minutes.
I nabbed this game as part of a Humble Bundle, and after seeing the art style, I had to give it a go! I grew up on games like Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake, so if you like those kind of games, this will definitely be right up your alley!
The art, music, weapons and world are awesome! There are secrets in every level to find that call for exploration, so make sure to check all corners and look around. The rewards are usually armor, health or ammo, but you can also find Weapon Tokens that seem to unlock variations of weapons you have collected. I haven't purchased any yet because I wanted to get a feel for each weapon type, but as a person that likes Rifles, I will probably go with that first.
As for weapons, they are broken down into 6 types: Melee, Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Explosive and Exotic. Each weapon type has a base weapon (Melee for example is a knife/shiv), but you can use Weapon tokens to unlock variations, such as an axe for melee to replace the knife/shiv, and allows you to hit multiple enemies in one swing, at the cost of it being slower. Make sure to keep an eye out for the Weapon Tokens if you want to expand your arsenal!
I have read reviews that say this game is short, some people claiming to beat it in around 2 hours. If that is the case, I have to be pretty close to finishing the Early Access content. Hopefully the Devs add a bunch of more content, but since I got this as part of a Humble Bundle with 6 other games for $20, I don't think I paid too much for the admission. We will see as time goes as to what the game has to offer once fully out of Early Access, but as it stands currently, I am having a blast playing it!
If you are a fan of FPS horror Lovecraftian games, I would say give it a shot!
