Motorslice (a game that's been featured in various 'showcases' and 'fests' for a few years now) finally has a playable demo, and it provides one of the most interesting and memorable gaming experiences of recent memory.

The developer clearly loved the PS2 era of gaming, because this game takes the platforming mechanics of Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time and combines them with the look and feel of a Team ICO game (ie. ICO and Shadow Of The Colossus). The end result is a game that will provide huge nostalgia for PS2 veterans while also feeling like a brand new experience.

The combat is simple but fun and is mainly based around parries, dodge rolls and charge attacks. You’ll want to use all of these techniques as well, because the enemies are usually very aggressive (like the one at 5:10) and will defeat you in one hit. I’m not sure why they were so docile during this particular run though… maybe, after so many attempts at doing a ‘no deaths’ take for this video, they started feeling sorry for me and just stopped dodging my attacks!

There are other aspects to this game, such as rest points (which provide some insights into the world and the characters) and stray orbs that can be retrieved (with each one requiring some exploration or a platforming puzzle to retrieve). They add some extra depth to the game, but I ignored them in this video so I could showcase the platforming and combat more efficiently.
