Protest the Hero
Rody’s voice is on the mend, and the new record is almost done. Everything but the vocals have been recorded, and Rody is slowly working on that. In a FB post the band has laid out the progress of everything as well as saying that there is a “very special” guest bass player on a song from the new album. Probably Arif… that will be SWEET!
AC DC
Brian Johnson has confirmed that there WILL be a new record from AC/DC. In the most unlikely of ways, through grindcore band Terrorizer. Apparently Terrorizer just finished a European tour and at the airport they bumped into Brian Johnson. Through conversation with the old school rockstar, he confessed that he was “tired of denying” that they were working on a new record.
Tekashi 6ix9ine
The mumble rapper has apparently struck a deal with the Feds for $10,000. The deal also involves him pleading guilty to 9 felonies as well.

Zao - “Transmission 1: I Saw the End” https://youtu.be/vjPSQFl3ZKU
A little more death metal than previous Zao efforts. Traditionally considered metal core the shift is not unwelcome, though also not a full transition as illustrated by this song. It feels like they are stuck somewhere in between the 2 genres. Which honestly isn’t normally a bad thing. This time though it gives it a kind of direction-less quality. Structurally the song ventures away from the ABABC kind of pop structure a bit, though it is kind of difficult to tell because of the subpar production. It is more of an ABCABD kind of structure. Dynamically there are 2 levels: the slow heavy portion, that feels underwhelming again seemingly due to the low quality production, and the dissonant slow parts. The dissonant bits are sonically interesting, though not enough to salvage the overall song. From the record Decoding Transmissions from the Mobius Strip.

Born of Osiris - “Under the Gun” https://youtu.be/KC2JwxTNhi0
Another track off the new album The Simulation. This one is super synth heavy, which is an element they use VERY well here. The dynamic boost they get from that synth elevates what otherwise might be a mediocre BoO song. Also in the dynamics side of things, there is a bridge toward the middle of the song that uses some really great juxtaposition between the more mellow and soaring guitar work and the harsher screamed vocal. It is highly effective. I feel like since the exit of Jason Richardson the guitar work in BoO has suffered. Which also is why they added element of the synth elevates this song. What Richardson once would have done on his guitar the synth is doing here. Though that isn’t to say it is the same effect of doing these things on guitar, it is a similar theory with a different effect. One that I hope they embrace in the future.

Blueface - Bleed It https://youtu.be/C934VEPOD5Y
Never heard of Blueface before about a week or so ago. This is the first time actually hearing his music, and I don’t get it. This kid has no rhythm. Sure he is on beat most of the time, but is insistence on over lyricising really kills the flow. This could be a mediocre song, if it wasn’t so bad. Also, since we are talking about hip hop/rap, the lyrical content give the feeling of this gangsta revival that just feels out of place in the modern musical landscape. The beat is ok, easily something in more capable hands that could have been a radio hit.
