And MX Linux 21 AHS with Kernel 5.14 and latest graphics stack was officially released. Check out the news and find out where to download the distro.
MX Linux, a desktop-oriented Linux distribution based on the “stable” branch of Debian, is a cooperative venture between the antiX and ex-MEPIS Linux communities.
Using Xfce as the default desktop, it is a medium-weight operating system designed to combine a sleek, efficient desktop with simple setup, high stability, solid performance, and medium size.
Now, MX Linux developers today released the AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) edition of their latest MX Linux 21 distribution with the latest kernel and graphics stacks.
What's New in MX Linux 21 AHS
MX Linux 21 Wildflower was officially released last month on October 21st as a non-systemd distribution based on the latest and greatest series of operating system Debian Linux 11 Bullseye.
The new version is available with Xfce, KDE Plasma and Fluxbox editions. The AHS edition features the Xfce 4.16 desktop environment by default.
Since it is based on Debian Linux 11, MX Linux 21 is powered by Linux 5.10 LTS kernel by default, but the developers have made a special version for those who need to run MX Linux on their hardware with a newer kernel version, ie Linux kernel 5.14.
In addition, the AHS edition of MX Linux 21 features a newer graphics stack with newer versions of the Mesa, Vulkan and XOrg Server components, as well as some recompiled applications that use the latest kernel version.
However, this special edition does not work well with computers with Intel-based graphics when using suspend-to-ram or when resuming from suspend.
As such, the developers recommend that these users stick with one of the standard editions of MX Linux 21 with Linux 5.10 LTS kernel.
According to the developers:
“The AHS design is a little more advanced and not as tested as our major releases, and the idea is that it will get updates to the graphics stack over time, for those who don't need the latest open source graphics stack, no use using AHS.”
