N2840 Gaming - Assassins Creed Black Flag on Acer Aspire E15. There are some games which are just too difficult for laptops with the N2840 to be able to run - at any resolution. Black Flag is one of them, but we can get an idea of what happens when a game is too much for a value processor - or a value laptop that the processor is in.

On that note, as I've said in my other videos - the other laptops like the HP Stream 11 or HP Stream 13 which have the N2840 (and laptops with the N2840's sister CPU, the N2830) will play all these games near-identical. This N2840 Gaming list is meant to show all owners how much they can push their machine.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is running the AnvilNext graphic engine. This has proven to be a poorly optimized engine for PCs. You will get old consoles like the Xbox360 or PS3 able to run at faster framerates than PCs with more powerful hardware and more memory. This curious problem demonstrates that Ubisoft has used consoles as the primary development platform and just shoehorned the game engine into a shoddy port for PCs.

This sadly is a problem for PC gamers, as the PS4 and XboxOne are top of the list for a target development platform. Hopefully, the x86 PC CPU architecture will mean better console to pc ported games in the future.

Anyway, Black Flag is poorly optimized for PC and it shows.. here, I can't even get it to run in double digits at 800 x 600 with the lowest settings.

Another pet peeve is "next generation" games... which are not really "next generation". It only means the game engines they use more processing power as they have standard features which you are not able to turn down or turn off.

Anyway, it is buyer beware of some of these games when using a budget machine like this. It plays old games fine.. it plays newer games with compromises (like reducing details and resolution), but there are some games which it is just unable to play.

...but then again.. we're pushing this little thing more than it was expected to be with some of these games. But then, that's half the fun of it, right? ;-)
