Naname de Magic! [ななめ・で・まじっく!] Game Sample - Arcade
"Naname de Magic!" is a fairly mediocre puzzle game with cute characters developed for Arcades in 1994 by Atlus. The game is your typical drop puzzler with a typical save-the-heroine plot, but with two peculiar twists. The first twist is that you can eliminate objects vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. but you can only utilize an object's special properties by matching diagonally. The second twist is that the game has a greater emphasis on combat, as the main way to defeat an opponent is not by dropping junk on your opponent or reaching the play field border, but by breaking elemental objects to hit your opponent with magic. At the bottom of the screen is a red/blue bar that reacts in a seesaw fashion as players dish out attacks; a player will lose if the bar becomes all red or all blue.
Special power-ups to aid the player includes hourglasses which slow the drop speed to more manageable levels and orbs which transform bubbles into elemental objects to help make more potent diagonal chains. The game has two single player options (where the player uses Frain from the beginning or stage five) and a versus feature. The audio/visuals are fairly mediocre, but the game as a whole is tolerable. While it is unknown as to how rare "Naname de Magic!" is, it is supposedly very uncommon. This is a simple video of the game in action. Enjoy.
