Navy serviceman appears in court accused of fatal shooting on HMS Astute 11.04.11
A Royal Navy serviceman has appeared in court accused of murdering a colleague and attempting to murder three other crew on board a nuclear submarine. The shootings took place on board HMS Astute the UK's newest nuclear powered attack submarine, which is based at Faslane Naval base. On Friday Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux was fatally shot while on board. Able Seaman Ryan Samuel Donovan, 22, of Dartford, Kent, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the short hearing at Southampton magistrates court. He has also been charged with the attempted murders of Petty Officer Christopher Brown, 36, Chief Petty Officer David McCoy, 37, and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hodge, 45. Donovan was remanded in custody to appear at Winchester crown court on 13 April.
