NES Alphanumeric! #048: COBRA TRIANGLE
I live stream 8-bit Nintendo games at least once a week, usually WedNESdays from 10–11 p.m. Eastern, and sometimes play other games on Friday nights (NES, Game Boy, SNES, Wii, etc.) or whenever the mood strikes and I have time.
MINI-REVIEW: I heard some grumblings about COBRA TRIANGLE before I played it that had me worried, but I ended up having some fun with it. It's really hard, but the controls are fairly intuitive and responsive, and I like the variety of gameplay. Just like with their cult favorite BATTLETOADS, Rare pulled together a game in which every level is different, which brings in some welcome variety to a game that otherwise would be pretty standard fare. And as with Battletoads, some of the challenges are entirely unfair, and there's a steep learning curve to getting through the levels; in fact, this game reminds me a lot of the surfing level of Battletoads, right down to the hazards (logs and whirlpools!), floating 1-UPs, sound effects, and that neat dotted finish line. Do I recommend Cobra Triangle? Maaaaaybe.
