NES Alphanumeric! #043: CAVEMAN GAMES
I live stream 8-bit Nintendo games at least once a week, usually WedNESdays from 10–11 p.m. Eastern, and sometimes on Friday nights.
MINI-REVIEW: In a word, "Ugh."
I had low expectations for this NES sports game, based on similar games I've played in the past, like Track & Field, that present a bunch of mini-challenges that rely on you hitting a button really fast or pressing buttons in the right sequence with the right timing. This is more of the same, though I found them at least thoughtful and kind of interesting, with some respectable animations. However, the one saving grace that reviewers have mentioned, the humor, felt a bit oversold to me. The text might get a chuckle or two, but this isn't Monty Python.
On the whole, this plays better and is less frustrating than, say, Bigfoot, but I also wouldn't call it fun per se, and I don't see a lot of replay value here. Perhaps it's better with more than one player, or alcohol, or whatever, but it certainly doesn't stand on its own as an enjoyable, experience--if only because of the atrocious font that reminded me of what it was like to learn to read when I was young. I can't recommend this for anyone.
