Two key things to remember:
1. Get the border approximately during the transition between non 3 and spell 3. I got it a tad earlier than I usually do here, but it's also fine if you get the border while PoCing after the spell starts.
2. Graze the yellow rings at the start of non 4. Otherwise, you probably will only get the border at the start of spell 4, which is way too late to be useful.

As a general rule, if you have more than 40% of the border time remaining when things start moving on that spell, you should do the wave normally.
