The National Memorial Arboretum has held a service of dedication, in honour of 52 military staff killed in the line of duty.

Relatives of those killed serving in the Armed Forces during 2012 attended the service at the memorial in Alrewas, Staffordshire, with each of the names read out in turn.

Among the fallen were members of the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the Army.

The service - which takes place annually - is to be led by Bishop John Kirkham with the lord lieutenant of Staffordshire Ian Dudson, defence minister John Astor and senior military representatives attending.

The Portland stone memorial - opened in the presence of the Queen in 2007 - already honours more than 16,000 service personnel killed since the end of the Second World War.

The engraver, Nick Hindle, painstakingly added the new names over the course of a month starting in April this year.
