New Super Mario Bros. Playthrough (Direct DS Capture) - World 1
This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through New Super Mario Bros. for the DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki.
When I posted my original playthrough of this game last year, it suffered from some occasional stuttering throughout the videos to the point that people were specifically commenting on it. At the time, I didn’t know what was causing the problem, but when I replaced my computer a few months ago, the stuttering in my DS/3DS recordings suddenly stopped, so the problem must have been caused by my prior computer.
I’m replacing my prior playthrough of this game with a new one to get rid of the stuttering issue and hopefully improve the gameplay a little bit, but I’m not planning on replacing all of my DS/3DS captures. It’s just that my New Super Mario Bros. playthrough seemed to have the worst stuttering issue, so I wanted to fix that.
As I recall, I purchased this game on its release date back in 2006. This was the first original 2D Mario game to be released since Super Mario Land 2 back in 1992, so I was definitely excited to see Mario return to his original form after more than a decade.
New Super Mario Bros. was certainly an interesting idea back in 2006 since it utilized 3D graphics and some of the mechanics from Super Mario 64, but in a way, it was also kind of a lazy game for Nintendo to make. While the game was pretty good overall, the content was basically a rehash of the world themes established in Super Mario Bros. 3. The level design was certainly good, but some degree ambition was still missing.
I ultimately found New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U to be far superior titles, even without factoring in the multiplayer features. Even New Super Mario Bros. 2, probably the laziest title in the series, is arguably better than this game. Nonetheless, this is still one my of my go-to titles whenever I go on long trips, and I think the blue shell power-up is pretty cool.
I will be collecting all of the star coins in this playthrough, but I won't be completing an entire world in a single session. Instead, I'll be editing together the save points in order to upload a full world for each video.
In this first part I started a new save file and completed World 1.
Recorded with OBS Studio at 60 frames per second. I'm using a New 3DS XL.
