Did you ever learn a thing that, you didn't know you wanted to know, but once you did you were thrilled with your new knowledge? Well I never knew that the Atari 2600 Controller had a name, the CX40, and I think it's nerdy cool that they did that. How did I find this out, you might ask? Well, Atari just sent us 2 new wireless controllers, the CX40+ which looks like the Atari 2600's controller, and a new CX78+ controller, which is similar to the pack-in controller for the new Atari 7800+ system coming in the end of 2024. Well, let's take a look at these new Wireless controllers!

From Atari:
CX40+
Enjoy the freedom of untethered retro gaming with the CX40+ Wireless Joystick. Connects to your new 7800+ and 2600+ AND it works with original 2600 and 7800 hardware using an included DB9 wireless adapter. You can even connect it to a PC with an included USB-A adapter.

CX78+
The CX78+ Wireless Gamepad is a recreation of the radical two-button controller Atari released with the original 7800 in Europe. Wirelessly connects to your new 7800+ and 2600+ AND it works with original 2600 and 7800 hardware using the included DB9 wireless adapter. You can even connect it to a PC with the included USB-A adapter.

Initial Thoughts:
First and foremost how cool is it that in 2024 we're getting new hardware from Atari? For people of a certain age it's pretty cool, I promise! The CX40+ feels like the legit original controller, or at least the same as the one I received with my 2600+. The Weight and balance are spot on, and I love the fact it can connect via USB or DB9 connector.

I had to look it up to verify that the CX78 was a real Atari controller, but looking it up this looks spot on. What I am loving about this is that I think my youngest daughter will have an easier time playing 2600 and 7800 games, like I have Strawberry Shortcake for the Atari 2600 for example, with the CX78+ since it is closer to what she's familiar with on the Switch. Speaking of the Nintendo Switch, I can't wait to try the CX40+ on the Atari 50 Collection!

These are now available to order, thanks to Atari for sending us these to test out!
