No More Heroes 2 - Rank 4 - Reaper's Got Your Name
Part 2 of 2
The Rank 4 match contains lyrics. Unlike with Rank 50, nathan Copeland, the vocals are in English, so I could actually make out what was being said. This song is called "Philistine":
"Reaper Reaper": That's what people call me.
Why?
'Cause they all die.
When I sing, I end their lives.
You act
As though payback
Makes you a noble man.
Is that a fact?
Well you're a goddamned philistine.
"Reaper Reaper": That's what people call me.
Why?
'Cause they all die.
When I sing, I end their lives.
You act
As though payback
Makes you a noble man.
Is that a fact?
Well you're a goddamned philistine.
Requiem eternal.
Bullets right through the sternum.
No love tried to help me.
Reaper's got your name!
"Margaret" is Greek,
You geek.
It means "a pearl."
I'm a pure girl.
Boys cannot crack this oyster shell,
So go on.
Whip around that sword like you're the best.
It's such a bore.
Another hero? Oh please!
"Margaret" is Greek,
You geek.
It means "a pearl."
I'm a pure girl.
Boys cannot crack this oyster shell,
So go on.
Whip around that sword like you're the best.
It's such a bore.
Another hero? Oh please!
Thigh-high socks and my absolute territory:
Go on and drool.
The otaku cannot resist.
You think that fire in your eyes
Makes you a tiger in in disguise?
Dream on, you goddamned pussy!
"Reaper Reaper": That's what people call me.
Why?
'Cause they all die.
When I sing, I end their lives.
You act
As though payback
Makes you a noble man.
Is that a fact?
Well you're a goddamned philistine.

Anyway, let's begin with the fights inside Guan's Supermarket. We have a monologue from Sylvia about Rank 4's powers--she apparently sings a song of death. Travis has his work cut out for him. Anyway, once you finish all of what must have been close to a hundred baddies in the parking lot (or more, I lost count), you get inside the supermarket, where there are more baddies. By now, it really feels like a chore, even if Travis can move forward, as we've been saturated with these weak punks. (Is it me, or are those aisles REALLY close together? And lacking in stocked groceries?)
We finally run into Rank 4, Margaret Moonlight, on the rooftop. The first thing Travis notices is her whistling her signature melody, which means Travis is in big trouble. Nope, she's got nothing to do with supermarkets whatsoever. She is a young-looking woman dressed in an elegant Gothic Lolita dress--unwieldy for guns, but quite stylish, which is where it counts. But she is the second of the four "teleporting snipers," fighters with long-range moves who can warp to safety once you comes close. Since Travis is strictly a close combatant, he winds up having to do a lot of chasing around. Unlike with Million Gunman, Margaret wastes no time spouting one-liners. (Presumably, she's busy singing.) She just shoots, reloads, and shoots again.
Also unlike Million Gunman, Margaret is capable of melee fighting, using the scythe blades attached to her rifles, though they're more meant to get some distance between herself and Travis. However, because those are rifles she's carrying, she can only take one shot from each before she has to reload, whereas Million Gunman's money gun can shoot as much as he pleases, resulting in more health lost when hit by money than when hit by regular bullets.
Margaret is voiced by Tara Strong, who also voiced Cloe Walsh, Rank 23, earlier in this game.
You might have heard a phrase called "absolute territory" in the lyrics (or read the lyrics) and wondering what that means. More popularly known as untranslated Japanese, "zettai ryouiki," this refers to bare leg between the bottom of a skirt or shorts and the top of some stockings. Both men and women can have zettai ryouiki, though it's a mostly female thing. This is a major fetish in Japan, so much so that there are different grades of zettai ryouiki, determined by the amount of exposed leg (the less before it becomes imperceivable, the better) and the part of the leg exposed (the higher up before panties are visible, the better). The phrase comes from Neon Genesis Evangelion, though there it refers to a defensive field made of emotions. I don't know how it came to mean bare leg.
Travis doesn't have a change of heart finishing off Margaret, but he is more of a gentleman about it now. As for her last name, it's in the credits.
