[OLD] How to Jailbreak Your PS3 on Firmware 4.84 or Lower!
7,527PS3Xploit returns to take on firmware 4.84! If you have a PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.84 or lower, and it has a low enough minimum firmware version, you can now jailbreak your PS3 using only software! No hardware flashers, no need to take apart the console, not even a need to downgrade anymore! Thanks to the developers over at PS3Xploit, anyone with a compatible PS3 can patch their console and install Custom Firmware (CFW).
The process here is to make sure your PS3 can handle a jailbreak, meaning the number you get from MinVerChk must be 3.56 or lower. ANYTHING HIGHER THAN 3.56 FROM THIS TEST WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your PS3 is compatible, it must not be higher than firmware 4.84! Regardless of what firmware you are on you will first need to flash over the latest version of 4.84 HFW from PS3Xploit. This is a Hybrid Firmware (HFW) which will install a modified version of 4.84, allowing you to launch the PS3Xploit tools. Even if you are on a regular 4.84 firmware, you MUST install 4.84 HFW! This process will not work on standard 4.84 firmware!
From there you can dump your NAND or NOR of your PS3 to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This should be done on every install, just in case your system needs the flash restored at any point in the process. After that, copy a specific file to your flash drive, and run the writer tool. This process will flash the file to your console and "patch" the current 4.84 HFW so it is ready for CFW. After verifying your PS3 has been patched successfully, you can simply reboot your console, take a 4.84 (or higher) CFW of your choice, and install it directly through the XMB!
In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. All Fat/Phat models work! If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that show 3.56 or lower on MinVerChk will work, anything showing a higher firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim models and all Super Slim models.
