Oriclopedia: From SCART to HDMI
Happy new year 2020(*) everybody, and welcome to this first Oriclopedia video of the year :)
This time I'm showing you how to use your Oric on a modern screen using a HDMI connector.
There are multiple options, some are cheaper than other, but there's no point going too cheap if it does not work!
While working on this video I found the following article which basically matches what I'm saying regarding converters to avoid and which ones work, so that's good!
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/SCART-TO-HDMI-CONVERTERS-TO-AVOID
I'm not affiliated to any of the companies doing the products, I bought them myself for my own use, and I mention what works and what does not work.
The video capture card I used is the AVerMedia LGX (Live Gamer Extreme) GC550: https://www.avermedia.com/us/product-detail/GC550
The generic HDMI scan converter was bought from one of the many shops online (the original shop where I bought it is not selling them anymore).
The OSSC is available at Video Game Perfection: https://www.videogameperfection.com/products/open-source-converter/
The SCART cable I'm using is from the Retro Computer Shack and is guaranteed to work with all scalers - apparently some old cables are causing issues and fail to generate a clean signal.
I hope it was informative!
As usual, feel free to comment if you have remarks, suggestions, questions, or ideas of topics you'd like to be covered in my videos.
(*) This was written in January 2020, I was not expecting the year to be like it would be, sorry...
