Overview
Oscura: Second Shadow is an action platformer that is set in the Driftlands, a realm of darkness where the sun never shines and the only source of light is the Aurora Stone which is securely placed in the Great Lighthouse, but one day, the unthinkable happened, the Aurora Stone was stolen, plunging all of Driftland in total darkness, and without the only source of light illuminating the entire realm, all of Driftland will be destroyed, and this is where your journey begins, you will take control of Oscura, a creature of darkness and the keeper of the lighthouse, an unlikely hero with an unlikely ability, a mysterious and eternally glowing hand, you need to guide Oscura across the dark realms, with only his glowing hand to guide your way through the heart of Driftlands, you need to scour the vast lands and collect the shards and restore the Aurora Stone...time is running out though, you need to complete your quest before it is too late, before the darkness engulfs the entire universe, obscuring all light and rendering everything in a maddening darkness, the quest won't be that easy though as there are a lot of obstacles along the way, with only your reflexes, wits and Oscura's glowing hand to use, it's going to be tough completing the quest.
Graphics and Sound
Oscura: Second Shadow simple but beautiful graphics, the game is mostly shadows and silhouettes, you can barely see the structures or what's up ahead until Oscura draws near them with his glowing hand, character design is very simple, not much detail but looks pretty still, environments are generally dark, with the occasional splash of colors here and there, colors are mostly black all throughout, with just the backdrops having color, providing a nice contrast with the foreground, animations are nice, character movements are quite smooth, music and sounds are cool, in game music is soft and so are the sound effects...quite subtle really and fits the game just fine, special effects are nice, although nothing special, it still made the game quite pretty graphically, overall, it's the simple designs that make it look nice and beautiful.
Gameplay
Oscura: Second Shadow is basically an action platformer and a reflexive one at that, it seems like every step of the way is an obstacle of varying types, like platforms that crumble when stepped upon, gaps, spikes, spinning saw blades and even churning gears that could crush you instantly, not to mention those toxic pools of liquid and other ghastly creatures of unimaginable appearance, you need to be quick on your toes as you run, jump and double jump to avoid getting shredded into bits and pieces, besides those obstacles you need to evade, you also need to collect those light shards, all of them if you must as it is your main objective in the game, controls are simple and easy to use by the way, on the left are left and right arrows to move the character and on the right are the jump and the ability button, pressing the jump button twice will make Oscura double jump, really useful when avoiding deadly traps.
Features
Oscura: Second Shadow features dark graphics, it is mostly in shadows and silhouettes, there are 20 challenging levels for you to explore, peppered with traps and deadly obstacles, you can slow down the flow of time, the character's only ability by collecting shards across the levels.
Conclusion
Oscura: Second Shadow is not as easy as it looks, my character died so many times here, it seems like every step of the way is a deadly trap, you really need fast reflexes to play this game.
